This is the single most common question I get, and people always ask it like they're confessing to something. You're not. Wanting to know what a stranger can see about you before you hand over a card is just sensible, and the fact that nobody answers it plainly is why everyone ends up guessing. So here is the actual list.
What I see
Your display name, and your profile picture if you set one. That's the list. That's genuinely the whole list.
I don't see your real name. I don't see your email address. I don't see your card, your billing address, or any part of the number. I don't get a city, a country, or an IP. If you message me, I see the message and the display name attached to it, exactly like any other app.
The payment side of it never touches me. Money goes to the platform, the platform pays creators, and the details in between are none of my business and aren't shown to me. I could not look up who paid me last Tuesday even if I wanted to.
Your display name is yours to choose
This is the part people miss. Your display name is a free text field. It does not have to be your name, it does not have to be anything, and changing it takes about four seconds in your settings.
Loads of people set it to a single letter, a word, or something deliberately meaningless. Nobody thinks this is rude and nobody asks about it. If you signed up with your full real name because the box was there and you filled it in honestly — which is a very normal thing to have done — go and change it now, before you worry about anything else on this list.
That one field is the difference between being anonymous and not, and it's entirely under your control.
The two things that actually identify people
The first is your own display name, covered above. It is by far the most common way someone accidentally identifies themselves, and it is the easiest to fix.
The second is what you volunteer in conversation. I don't need your data if you tell me your first name, your job and which city you're in over the course of a week. People do this constantly, usually because the conversation is enjoyable and they forget it isn't private in the way a text to a friend is. That's fine if you meant to. It's worth being deliberate about rather than drifting into.
Nothing else on the platform leaks you. Not the subscription, not a tip, not a message. Only those two.
The one place it isn't invisible
Your bank statement. Subscribing shows up there, usually with the platform's name on it, and no privacy setting on the site changes that because it isn't the site's to change — it's how card payments work.
It doesn't say which creator, and it isn't itemised. But if someone else reads your statements, that's the gap, and it's a real one. I've written about exactly what the descriptor looks like separately, because it deserves more than a line.
The short version: to me you are a display name and nothing else, and you control that display name. To your bank you are a line item with the platform's name on it. Everything between those two facts is private, and anyone telling you otherwise is either guessing or selling something.
