A creator writing instructions for leaving is apparently strange, but I'd rather you knew how the door works before you walked in. People stay subscribed to things they've stopped wanting because cancelling feels like a confrontation, and then they resent the whole category. Here's the mechanism, plainly.
It isn't really 'cancel', it's 'stop renewing'
This is the bit that trips everyone. Cancelling doesn't end your access there and then — it switches off the next payment.
You keep everything you already paid for until the current period runs out. If you paid for a month and cancel on day four, you have twenty-six days left and you keep all of them. The status usually changes to something like "will not renew" with the date your access ends, so you can see exactly where you stand.
Nobody is punished for cancelling early, and nothing locks the moment you click it.
Where the button actually is
Not in your account settings. This is the single most common reason people think they can't cancel — they go to settings, find nothing that looks right, and give up.
It's attached to the subscription itself. Go to your subscriptions list, find the creator, and the auto-renew toggle is there on that entry. That's it. Two taps once you're looking in the right place.
There's no retention flow, no phone call, and nobody emails you asking why. And no, I don't get told. There's no awkward moment on my end because there's no notification on my end.
Blocking is not cancelling
This one costs people actual money, so it's worth its own heading.
Blocking a creator and cancelling a subscription are two separate actions. Blocking stops them appearing and messaging you. It does not switch off auto-renew. If you block someone and assume that handled it, the renewal will still go through on schedule and you'll be paying for a page you've blocked yourself from seeing.
If you want out, turn off auto-renew. Block as well if you want to — just don't do it instead.
On refunds
Generally there aren't any for unused time. Cancel on day four of a month and you keep the remaining days rather than getting money back for them.
That's normal for subscriptions and it's not creator-specific, but it does mean the sensible time to cancel is whenever you decide to, not near the renewal date. There's no advantage to waiting and there's a real risk of forgetting.
Turn off auto-renew on the subscription itself, keep the rest of the month you paid for, and don't rely on blocking to do it. That's genuinely the whole thing. Knowing you can leave easily is most of what makes it comfortable to arrive.
